Message from the Superintendent
The basketball teams completed their seasons at the combined District tournament held in Conrad February 19-22nd. It was an exciting tournament with both teams playing well but coming up short in going to the divisional tournament. There was a great amount of improvement by both teams throughout the year. Thank you to the fans, parents, cheerleaders, pep band, and everyone who supported our student athletes.
The regional MCTM Math Contest will be held in Havre on March 3rd. Students in grades 7-12 get a chance to compete against other regional math students on topics such as number concepts, dimensions and shapes, problem solving, applied math, finite math, and advanced math. Superior ratings will be awarded to the top 15% and honorable mention for the next 20% with a $200 scholarship given to the top male and female in the region.
The Valier FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) Chapter is getting ready to compete at the State Leadership Conference in Billings March 23rd-25th. Students will compete in ten categories of STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events. These projects consist of chapter service opportunities, illustrated talks, applied technology, career observation and practice, focus on children, and showcasing our chapter’s accomplishments. The top projects in each category have the opportunity to compete nationally with other FCCLA members from all over the country. FCCLA provides a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, and learn with and from peers from all walks of life. For students, a win at the state level includes national recognition and participation at the national leadership convention.
Valier will be competing in a new event at the high school level called the Principal Cup. This is an academic challenge between schools in North Central Montana. The team will consist of one student from each class (freshman through senior) along with one student from any class. The students will take an online test that will seed them for team competition held at Centerville High School on March 21st. There will be medals and trophies given in several categories. Good luck panthers!
